Misschien komen er wel te weinig berichten voorbij op dit blog over motoren. En dat terwijl ik toch ook motorzadels bekleed. ...have emerged, with comparison of the original models and his pin-ups making great images. The inspiration for his work in producing the often suggestive, cheeky and flirty pin-ups is fascinating, with even these girls given a liberal photoshopping to push the message that little bit more.

It's really cool seeing how created a reference picture for the idea's in his head and then transformed this to the stunning paintings we all love!

Ik heb weer een project gedaan waar ik enorm trots op ben. Dit keer een eigen project voor de kinderkamer.
Deze stoel hebben we jaren terug gevonden in een slooppand in Eindhoven. Het hele project heeft veel tijd en "elbow grease" gekost maar het resultaat is er dan ook naar! Ik heb deze fauteuil volledig gerestaureerd inclusief de houten decoratie elementen waar op verschillende plaatsten stukken uit waren. Wat niet zo gek is als je bedankt dat we er een dubbeltje in vonden uit 1938. Voor meer foto's kun je terecht in mijn meubelstofferings portfolio.

A great documentary about one of the last true outlaw families in the USA. This documentary by (jackass) Johnny Knoxville and Julien Nitzberg shows struggles of the White's family. You might know them from listening to HankIII's 2006 release "Straight to Hell" with the song "D Ray White which talks about the life of grand-dad of the White's family. A famous hillbilly tab dancer who unfortunately got shot like so many in his family tree...

Co-produced by Jackass’ Johnny Knoxville, The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia follows the extended, rowdy White family – led by matriarch Mamie and her brother Jesco (who was the subject of his own documentary, The Dancing Outlaw, in 1991). "Big Daddy" Ed Roth (March 4, 1932 – April 4, 2001) was an artist and cartoonist who created the hot-rod icon Rat Fink and other extreme characters. As a custom car builder, Roth was a key figure in Southern California's Kustom Kulture and hot-rod movement of the 1960s. He grew up in Bell, California, attending Bell High School, where his classes included auto shop and art.

Roth is best known for his grotesque caricatures — typified by Rat Fink — depicting imaginative, out-sized monstrosities driving representations of the hot rods that he and his contemporaries built. Although Detroit native Stanley Mouse (Miller) is credited with creating the so-called "Monster Hot Rod" art form, Roth is certainly the individual who popularized it. Roth is less well known for his innovative work in turning hot rodding from crude backyard engineering, where performance was the bottom line, into a refined art form where aesthetics were equally important, breaking new ground with fiberglass bodywork.

Veronica “Ronnie” Foster poses with a Bren gun she just finished making at the John Inglis factory in Toronto. She doesn’t look so glamorous in this publicity photo, but Ronnie was attractive and her image was used as a morale booster in Canadian factories during the Second World War — a Canadian version of Rosie the Riveter. Up until then, the idea of women working on the line alongside the men was unthinkable. Curiously, they also photographed women workers doing more normal things, like hanging around the beach or going to a club for drinks.

World War Two, while horrific in terms of casualties, did have an upside. It turned Canada, America and most of the Commonwealth into industrial powerhouses, ones where women became respected, not only as mothers, but as skilled industrial labourers, eventually even as soldiers. Factory worker or Captain, they all need to be remembered too.

Rosie the Riveter History

First things first: What is a "riveter," anyway? A riveter is someone who operates a riveting gun, a necessary tool in the manufacturing industry. Many of the women who were inspired to join the work force by Rosie the Riveter actually did very little (if any) riveting, simply because their jobs didn't require it. In fact, the number of women who filled manufacturing roles never exceeded 10 percent of the overall women's working class, which numbered some 19 million [source: PBS].

The Rosie phenomenon came about following the beginning of United States involvement in World War II in 1941. A song titled "Rosie the Riveter," written by John Jacob Loeb and Redd Evans, was released in the early months of 1943. The lyrics described exactly the type of role the government was hoping women would fill during wartime: "She's a part of the assembly line, she's making history, working for victory, Rosie the Riveter."

On May 29, 1943, Rockwell's depiction of Rosie appeared on the cover of the Saturday Evening Post. At the time, Rockwell had a reputation as the most popular illustrator in the country, so his cover reached a massive audience, bringing Rosie's unique and groundbreaking image to the forefront of attention [source: Library of Congress]. Rockwell sought 19-year-old Mary Doyle to serve as a model for Rosie, although he made some drastic changes to her natural appearance by adding a muscular physique [source: Rosie the Riveter].

Naast autobekleding doe ik natuurlijk ook meubelstoffering. Metname design meubels omdat deze vaak alleen in waarde steigen en dus ook echt de moeite waard zijn om ze in goede staat te houden. Maar ook doe ik vaak oor fauteuils en barokken stoelen bijvoorbeeld voor op een kinderkamer. Deze keer kwam er weer eens iets nieuws voorbij. Een klant wilde een klassiek stoeltje bekleed hebben in postzakken! Het resultaat is erg leuk geworden.

Chrystler Town and Country uit 1972 - Kos, Griekenland

De eerste Amerikaanse oldtimer die ik gedaan heb uit Griekenland. Deze Chrystler Town and Country uit 1972 rijd rond op het zonnige eiland Kos. Deze enorme slee heeft maar liefst 3 banken! For 1972 Chrysler produced two versions of the Town & Country Station Wagon, a six-passenger and a 9-passenger version. The 9-passenger sold for slightly less and was over twice as popular. Total production for the 9-passenger version equaled 14,116 in 1972, and 6,473 for the 6-passenger version. Both were fitted with a V8 engine that displaced 400 cubic-inches and produced an SAE Net horsepower rating of 190.

The Town & Country name was used by Chrysler initially to represent their wood-bodied cars. The configuration was a barrel-back sedan-wagon. Beginning in 1946, the Town & Country was available as either a luxury convertible or as a utility sedan. More bodystyles were planned, but never materialized.

Zojuist weer een hele mooie oldtimer opgeknapt! Een Buick Electra om precies te zijn. Voor deze klant heb ik de authentieke, orginele materialen besteld in Amerika. Binnenkort meer foto's op de website!

Voor 1959 vormden de Buick Super, de Buick Roadmaster en de Buick Limited de hoogste klasse van de modellenlijn van Buick. In 1959 werden alle oude modelnamen overboord gegooid. Er kwamen nieuwe namen, nieuwe motoren, nieuwe remmen, een nieuw design en nieuwe transmissies. Kortom, alles werd vernieuwd, en de Electra werd daarbij het nieuwe luxemodel van het merk. De Electra verving de Super en de Electra 225 verving de Roadmaster en de Limited. De 225 verwees naar de lengte van de auto in inches. Daarom kreeg de Electra 225 de bijnaam Deuce and a quarter.

Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes is the band’s seventh studio album and first release in over six years. The new album builds on singer Mike Ness’ twin footings, one in the haunted American landscapes of Hank Williams and the other in the raw swagger of Exile-era Rolling Stones. While these twin pillars have always been behind Social Distortion’s anthemic songs, on Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes they come roaring to the fore, in one of the hardest rocking, most soulful, albums of Ness’ career.

After years of working with various producers in the studio, Mike Ness took on the duty for the first time with their new album. The band entered a Burbank studio in early 2010 where they recorded for the next several months in between spring and summer tour dates which included Lollapalooza and Outside Lands. In early October the band wrapped up recording before heading out for their fall US tour. Dirty Rotten Imbecil's (Voor de ouwe Rotten onder ons!)

Dit was wat de vader van zanger Kurt Brecht riep toen D.R.I. voor het eerst aan het oefenen was. Daar dacht de Hardcore scene anders over. Al vanaf 1982 speelt deze band elke zaal waar ze komen helemaal plat. Vanaf het album ‘Crossover’ uit 1987 deed de band de titel eer aan. Het album kon niet meer tot de hardcore punk gerekend worden. Vanaf dit album bleek de band belangrijk in zowel de punk als de metal stromingen. Optredens trokken fans uit beide genres. Aanvankelijk typerende punk-activiteiten als slamdance en stagediving werden zo geopenbaard aan het tevens aanwezige metalpubliek.
De band is sinds 2010 weer aan het spelen, en blazen alles en iedereen van het podium. 100% zeker dat dit een van de betere feestjes gaan worden in 2011, je bent gewaarschuwd!

Samen met zijn Outlaw Carnies vormt hij een passende rockabilly, country en rock act. Verder gaan zijn teksten over live on the road en natuurlijk vrouwen.
Liefhebbers van Hank Williams III, kunnen hun hart ophalen bij Bob Wayne zien en het is een kennismaking met muziekvormen als hellbilly, bluegrass en alternatieve country.

Omdat niet iedereen bekent is met zijn werk, hier even een korte uitleg:

Een van de hoogte punten van ons bezoek aan de verenigde staten dit jaar was de nieuwe "Hank Williams" tattoo die Eddie kreeg van tattoo artist Bugs. Voor die gene die niet bekent zijn met zijn werk... Bugs tattoo's lijken op schilderijen. Het kleur gebruik, de schets achtige stijl en de kunstzinnige vormen geven hem een unieke tattoo stijl! Hier een paar foto's van de betreffende tattoo.

The Goodguys Kustom of the Year award for 2010 went to Hollywood tattoo artist Pascal “Bugs” Jarrion’s 1935 Ford built by Troy Ladd of Hollywood Hot Rods. From Goodguys:

The car originally started life as a humpback sedan but was meticulously transformed into a chopped 3 window coupe. All body panels were either handmade or modified to create a longer, “Zephyr” style Westergard-inspired kustom. In addition to the chopped top, the low and sleek look was achieved by the rear 8 inches and adding 10 inches to the handmade rear fenders. Fender skirts and running boards were also fabricated while a Bentley hood skin was used for the decklid area. The headlights are from a Chevy truck, and the distinctive grill came from a White truck. The car was finished off in a ruby brown metallic. It sits on a custom frame with Ridetech goodies, a 4-link rear suspension with a Ford 9-inch and a tried and true 350/350 combo.

Op Sema 2010 kwamen we een mooi busje tegen, zoals je kunt zien tussen onze Sema foto's. En vandaag kwam ik op een forum een aantal foto's tegen van hetzelfde busje. Dus ik dacht laat ik die ook met jullie delen :-) Ziet er goed met met het metal flake dakje!

HotRod's voor de lage landen (met trappers)... Er staan nog meer foto's op van de Rockin' Jalopy's Motorama meeting afgelopen weekeinde in het Autotron.

En Artwork van o.a. Nederlands eigen Jeffrey Warlich. Deze kunstzinnige illustrator heeft in het verleden al eens een T-shirt voor ons ontworpen waar we meer dan happy mee waren. Ook zijn schilderijen zien er altijd geweldig uit. Wat ik zo waardeer aan zijn werk is zijn onmiskenbaar eigen stijl! Go check it out mensen...

Rocking Jalopy's Motorama 2010

Dit weekeinde was het weer feest in het Autron in Rosmalen. Naast de gebruikelijke oldtimer's waren er ook weer een grote collectie Hotrods & Custom cars te zien. Veel meer nog dan vorig jaar dus iedereen kon zijn ogen weer goed de kost geven en naar hartelust fotograferen! Er waren weer volop kraampjes met accessoires en snuisterijen. Ook wij van RachelSarah Autobekleding stonden er weer met onze stand met naast ons onze gezellige buurtjes Bart en Suus van B&S Classic Cars. Kortom heel gezellig!

Als wij naar Amerika gaan willen we ook vanalles zien. Een van de plaatsen die we (vooral Eddie) graag wilde zien was Luchenbach Texas (Willie Nelson en Waylon Jennings zingen hierover in het gelijk namige country nummer) Dit is een prachtig klein gehucht wat vooral in het teken staat van country muziek, iets waar we beiden enorm van houden. Hiervoor moet je natuurlijk wel van de snelweg af, maar dan kom je ook die kenmerkende dingen tegen zoals deze oude "juweeltjes"....

Terug van Vakantie

Zo, na zo'n 2900 mijl oftewel 4600 Km gereden te hebben door de USA zijn we weer terug in ons mooie Brabantse land! We hebben een geweldige tijd gehad en heerlijk weer. Het was dan ook erg schrikken toen we buiten de luchthaven stapte en het hier 5 graden was. Maar we gaan er niet teveel woorden aan vuil maken.

We zullen vooral de vele vette oldtimers, custom cars en hotrods laten zien die op onze trip zijn tegengekomen!

Zo zijn we in Los Angeles naar Bob's Big Boy geweest, een echte 50's diner waar iedere vrijdag een flink aantal auto fanaten bijeen komt om hun auto's te showen en een heerlijk "Double Deck Burger" naar binnen te schuiven vergezelt van een milkshake of een portie " Chillie Cheese Fries". Het leuke aan dit soort kleinere treffe's is natuurlijk dat je de locals leert kennen. Erg gezellig dus.
